How the Pandemic Changed the Entertainment Industry
With restrictions on travel, limitations of groups being able to attend productions, and a halt in the award & fashion events, sports and concerts, and pretty much all of the important ways the entertainment industry generates revenue.
With everything temporarily (?) moving to a virtual way of working, such as auditions, filming, meetings, and even award shows as we seen with this years Emmy’s, it leads to questions from those within the industry of, what parts of this will remain in the future, and how has it effected the entertainment industry all through 2020, and going forward into 2021.
With companies such as The Beautiq, coming up with new innovative ways to adapt to the unfortunate and such a sudden shift in traditional ways of working, it has not been the same for all. The company, who provided virtual commercials, documentaries and music videos for clients, as well as introducing a online way of finding roles for talents, has been able to grow rapidly in their early years even during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Sadly, with a massive closure in local venues and businesses, and closures and downfalls of even top companies that largely assist in the employment opportunities for performers within the entertainment industry, such as Arcadia group, who own retail stores Topshop, Peacocks, and Burton.
It had led to many asking, will the pandemic’s impact have a ever lasting effect on the industry?
What does it mean for the future of Entertainment?
With major productions being postponed, events being cancelled, and A LOT of jobs lost due to this, we can expect things to not be as they once were for at least a few years. It will take re-building, time and preparation, however it is very possible, and likely, that things will go back to how they once were. People may be more used to virtual ways of working, such a Zoom meetings, and general working from home roles, however due to production being such a huge team-based task, it will be near impossible to be able to create and continue to hold the events in such a manner.
